It’s not uncommon to have some areas of stubborn fat that don’t seem to budge, despite your healthy diet and exercise routine. As we get older, fat deposits can become more entrenched or may cause your body to look less toned and sculpted, even if you are happy with your overall weight and fitness level.

This is where fat freezing comes into the conversation. Designed to target subcutaneous fat — aka the wobbly parts you can see just under your skin — it’s a treatment that can give you more tone and reduce certain fatty deposits, boosting your confidence and giving you a more slim and sculpted physique.

So, does fat freezing work? How long does it take, and what kind of results can you expect from it? If you’ve wondered about these questions before but never got the answers, let us tell you what’s possible with this procedure and what to expect.

What is fat freezing?

Fat freezing, sometimes called cryolipolysis, is a safe, non-invasive and science-backed treatment that can target subcutaneous fat deposits and cause them to disappear permanently. Fat freezing was developed after studying the effects of frostbite on the body. Because fat freezes at a higher temperature than skin and other tissue, it’s possible to freeze and kill fat cells without damaging the surrounding tissue, muscle or skin.

Fat freezing is not an alternative to weight loss, but can effectively target areas that seem to be unaffected by weight loss, including:

  • Stomach
  • Thighs
  • Under chin area
  • Jawline
  • Back and bra strap areas
  • Underneath the buttocks
  • Bums, flanks and sides
  • Upper arms
  • Lower back

How does fat freezing work?

At Evolution Laser, our state-of-the-art technology achieves up to a 25% fat reduction per cycle, with our machine treating up to four areas simultaneously! It is performed using an applicator tool that suctions and freezes fat cells to -10 degrees Celsius, causing them to undergo a process known as apoptosis. During apoptosis, the body naturally eliminates these dead fat cells through the lymphatic drainage system.

The applicator uses light suction, and unlike liposuction, it is a non-surgical treatment with little to no downtime afterwards.

The fat freezing treatment generally lasts between 35 and 75 minutes, but bear in mind this can vary depending on the size of the area you are treating. Afterwards, your technician will perform a quick two-minute massage to break up the fat cells and encourage their dissolution.

Does fat freezing hurt?

Most patients describe fat freezing as a pain-free, quick treatment that doesn’t require downtime. You may feel a pulling sensation during the procedure and an initial sense of cold, which disappears after numbness takes effect.

However, there are some mild side effects that can affect patients, including:

  • Redness
  • Some bruising
  • Temporary firmness in the skin
  • Tingling
  • Stinging
  • Aching or tenderness
  • The sensation of fullness at the back of throat

These side effects are short-term and should dissipate within a few days of the treatment. During your initial free consultation with one of the therapists at Evolution Laser Clinics, we will talk you through all the possible risks and side effects of fat freezing treatments, so you can make an informed decision and know exactly what to expect.

How many sessions for fat freezing will I need?

This depends on the area you’re treating, the fat volume targeted, and your responsiveness to the treatment. Generally, between one and three seasons are enough to give you the desired results. If you require more than one treatment, our team will organise a schedule for ongoing treatments, which can be performed roughly one month apart.

Does fat freezing really work?

Because fat freezing causes cell death in fat deposits, it is a permanent solution for targeting stubborn areas of fat that you haven’t lost with traditional diet and exercise options.

It’s worth noting that fat freezing is not an obesity treatment, and it does not target visceral fat — the kind that causes diabetes or heart disease. Fat freezing, therefore, won’t improve your overall health. However, it can get rid of certain superficial fat deposits for good. Fat freezing also won’t stop you from gaining weight in the future — it’s possible that weight gain will cause fatty deposits to reappear, so it’s essential to keep up a healthy and active lifestyle to enjoy the best possible results from the treatment.

Is fat freezing safe?

Fat freezing has been available in clinics since 2010, with proven results for clients of all different body types, ages and body parts. It’s regarded as a safe and effective treatment that doesn’t involve surgery or invasive elements — the risks associated with this alternative to liposuction are much lower.

How much does fat freezing cost?

This will depend on the area or areas you are treating, how many sessions for fat freezing are required, and the amount of subcutaneous fat in the treatment area. At Evolution Laser Clinic, we pride ourselves on offering a full range of skin and body treatments, using gold-standard, medical-grade equipment for all our services.

No matter what body area you want to treat with fat freezing, we can talk you through the best possible approach and guarantee you’ll love our affordable rates.
