Surgical Scars

Initially wound healing leads to the formation of granulation tissue which comprises of blood vessels, fibroblasts and collagen.  Over time the granulation tissue transforms into a well healed scar consisting primarily of collagen with very few blood vessels and fibroblasts left.  The first collagen laid down by the fibroblasts is T-III collagen, over time it changes into type I, the strongest type of collagen.  This excess collagen is the result of the skin’s attempt to repair itself, which unfortunately occurs in haphazardly arranged bundles, giving scars a different appearance and texture to that of the surrounding skin.

Evolution Laser Clinic offers a variety of scar treatments which encourage the skins natural ability to heal itself.  The following treatments initiate the formation of new, organised collagen, reducing the appearance of scars:

  • Dermapen Collagen Induction Therapy - a non laser therapy perforate the skin to induce the production of collagen, requires two to three days downtime
  • Fraxel re:fine - fractional laser that stimulates the production of collagen and elastin, and corrects various skin concerns, requires one to two days downtime
  • Fraxel re:store - fractional laser that stimulates the production of collagen and elastin, that stimulates the production of collagen and elastin, and corrects various skin concerns, requires four to five days downtime
  • RevLite Laser - Q-switched Nd:YAG laser that stimulates the production of collagen and elastin, and corrects various skin concerns, requires no downtime
