Spider veins are small dilated blood vessels measuring between 0.5-1.0mm in diameter that develop on the legs, particularly on the upper thigh, below the knee, and around the ankles. Spider veins can occur due to a number of reasons such as age, genetic disposition, pregnancy, life style and occupation i.e. prolonged periods of standing or sitting.
