Pigmentation

Pigmentation occurs due to the irregular production and deposition of melanin by the skin’s melanocytes (pigment producing cells).  Melanin production is stimulated by UV or sun exposure and the amount of melanocytes present in our skin determines our skin colour.  Melanin production is the natural defense mechanism of the skin, where melanin is dispersed throughout the upper layers of the skin to provide protection against harmful UV rays.  Excessive sun exposure, birthmarks, or medications may result various forms of unwanted pigmentation such as age spots, sun spots, liver spots, freckles, cafe au lait and post inflammatory hyperpigmentation.  Evolution Laser Clinic offers the following treatment alternatives to reduce epidermal pigmentation:
