Melasma

Melasma and Chloasma are a form of facial pigmentation that is stimulated by estrogen.  As a result of pregnancy, breast feeding, the pill, hormone replacement therapy, or other medications and medical conditions, large brown-grey patches of pigment can appear on the cheeks, upper lip and forehead.  The melanocytes or pigment-producing cells are stimulated by the female sex hormones estrogen and progesterone to over-produce melanin pigment when the skin is exposed to the sun.  These irregular discoloured patches gradually develop over time, or may become apparent after excessive UV exposure.  Melasma primarily affects women with a darker or olive complexion and a genetic predisposition. Evolution Laser Clinic offers the following treatment alternatives to reduce dermal pigmentation:

  • Fraxel re:fine - fractional laser that stimulates the production of collagen and elastin, and corrects various skin concerns, requires one to two days downtime
  • Fraxel re:store - fractional laser that stimulates the production of collagen and elastin, that stimulates the production of collagen and elastin, and corrects various skin concerns, requires four to five days downtime
  • RevLite Laser - Q-switched Nd:YAG laser that stimulates the production of collagen and elastin, and corrects various skin concerns, requires no downtime

Depending on the severity and depth of pigmentation present, a combination of treatments to correct and rejuvenate the skin may be required.  Regardless of your skin type and your desired degree of correction, Evolution Laser Clinic can tailor a solution to suit your needs.
