Skin needling creates “micro injuries” to the skin, promoting the skin’s natural healing response to produce collagen and elastin.  This collagen induction therapy is used as an alternative to facelifts and other surgical/intensive anti-aging procedures.  By inducing the production of collagen and elastin the appearance of pores, acne scars, and wrinkles are minimised.  The skin tightens, lifts and fills resulting in a more rejuvenated, younger looking skin.

Traditionally skin needling has been performed with a dermaroller.  While effective in it’s old form, the needles would penetrate the skin at an angle causing more damage and therefore greater recovery time, and was difficult to use on scars and facial contours.

The DermaPen penetrates the skin from 20 to 90 times per second with an adjustable speed, and at a depth between 0.25mm- 2mm, depending on the area being treated.  The needles in the DermaPen penetrate the skin vertically, minimising skin damage, pain and recovery time.  A topical anaesthetic is applied prior to treatment, and a small amount of downtime, 1 to 2 days is typically expected with this treatment.
