Dermal fillers are used to create volume in the upper layer of the skin, for the treatment of facial folds, lines, wrinkles, depressed scars, and to enlarge and reshape the lips.  Evolution Laser Clinic uses dermal fillers, which consist of non-animal stabilised hyaluronic acid.  This is a complex sugar chain which strongly binds water and is a natural component of human skin.

Prior to treatment, the area to be treated is anaesthetised and cooled, and small amounts of the filler are injected into the dermal layer of the skin to fill out unwanted lines and wrinkles, or to enlarge lip volume and define lip shape.  Generally a top up treatment is required 3 months post treatment, with the fully filled effect lasting approximately 6 to 12 months.  Multiple treatments over a period of time to gradually “fill up” an area can be used to achieve optimal results.

Most patients look “puffy” immediately after their treatment, particularly if the lip area has been treated.  This moderate swelling usually lasts for 48 hours, and is usually only noticeable  to the patient or friends who know them well.

Bruising at the site of injection is also possible and usually clears completely in one week.  Mineral make-up can be worn immediately after treatment to conceal any redness, however other types of make-up should be avoided for 24 hours after injection.  It is best to avoid vigorous physical activity or consume large amounts of alcohol for 24 hours post treatment as these activities increase the risk of bruising.
