Acne Scars
Acne scars are the result of inflammation within the dermis brought about by acne (blocked follicles). Acne scars may develop as a result of destroyed collagen, consequently causing tissue loss (pitting or atrophic scars), or due to an over-production of collagen, resulting in tissue gain (hypertrophic scars). Due to the inflammation experienced in the dermis new collagen fibres are formed to try and repair the damaged area. This healing response however, doesn’t always produce the smooth and flawless skin that previously existed, with most people left with a constant, life-long reminder of the acne they once struggled with.
Because the source of the scar is deep, peels and dermabrasion can only provide partial improvement to the skin. Our non-surgical treatments that can help reduce the appearance of acne scars are:
- Dermal Fillers - injections of stabilised hyaluronic acid requiring 2-3 days downtime
- Dermapen Collagen Induction Therapy - a non laser treatment that perforates the skin to induce the production of collagen and elastin, requires two to three days downtime
- Fraxel re:fine - fractional laser that stimulates the production of collagen and elastin, and corrects various skin concerns, requires one to two days downtime
- Fraxel re:store - fractional laser that stimulates the production of collagen and elastin, that stimulates the production of collagen and elastin, and corrects various skin concerns, requires four to five days downtime
- RevLite Laser - Q-switched Nd:YAG laser that stimulates the production of collagen and elastin, and corrects various skin concerns, requires no downtime
Depending on the degree of scarring a combination of treatments to correct and stimulate collagen may be required. Regardless of your skin type and your desired degree of correction, Evolution Laser Clinic can tailor a solution to suit your needs.
